Political appointees in every federal agency?  (link)

In an executive order published last week in the Federal Register, Mr. Bush said that each agency must have a regulatory policy office run by a political appointee, to supervise the development of rules and documents providing … a gatekeeper in each agency to analyze the costs and the benefits of new rules and to make sure the agencies carry out the president’s priorities.

Making Light’s succinct comment (paraphrased): “There’s a word for this: Commissar.”

Too early in the morning for a political diatribe.

Well, here’s another reason why one should oppose the expansion of government even in ‘good’ times – because as always, the infrastructure can be turned to any purpose later – remember, a tool can be used for any purpose – good or evil – and a government agency is nothing more than a tool of power.

Try to look beyond the moment – nearly every agency can be converted quickly.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that this is only fair – after all, regulatory agencies are (however unconstitutional) creatures of the executive branch.

    FDR would be proud!
